Panasonic Unveils Enhanced Toughbook 40 Mk2 Rugged Laptop

Panasonic has launched the second-generation Toughbook 40, known as the Toughbook 40 Mk2, showcasing significant upgrades in processing power and durability tailored for demanding environments.

At the heart of the Toughbook 40 Mk2 is Intel’s next-generation Meteor Lake Core Ultra processor. Customers can choose between two vPro options: the Ultra 5 135H, featuring four performance cores and eight efficiency cores with a peak frequency of 4.6GHz, or the Ultra 7 165H, which includes six performance cores and eight efficiency cores, reaching up to 5.0GHz.

The new model boasts a 14-inch Full HD LCD touchscreen with enhanced brightness, now delivering 1,200 nits for improved visibility. It also incorporates an advanced Intel BE200 Wi-Fi 7 network card and offers optional 4G/5G connectivity, along with eSIM functionality and Bluetooth 5.3.

The Toughbook 40 Mk2 features a COM splitter software upgrade, allowing multiple GPS-dependent applications to function simultaneously.

Designed to meet rigorous military standards, the Toughbook 40 Mk2 adheres to MIL-STD-810H and MIL-STD-461H certifications, ensuring resilience against shocks, vibrations, and various environmental conditions. Its IP66 rating guarantees protection against dust and water, while it operates effectively in temperatures ranging from -29°C to 63°C.

The laptop’s design allows for easy replacement of key components, including the battery, storage, and memory. It measures 54.4mm in thickness and weighs 3.35kg. The built-in 68W battery provides up to 12 hours of operation per charge, with support for an additional battery to extend runtime.

Customization options are extensive, featuring slots for a second NVMe SSD, smart card reader, DVD/Blu-ray drive, additional battery, fingerprint sensor, and RFID card reader.

Priced starting at $4,699 (approximately A$7,047), the Panasonic Toughbook 40 Mk2 is available for purchase, though Panasonic Australia has yet to announce specific pricing and availability details for the region.
